Our Talker
When Megan was 18 months old, she had an autoimmune reaction to penicillin that caused her trauma. She turned from being a vocal, outgoing child to a little girl who was highly introverted almost overnight. It took five years (and a special connection with her teacher) for her to find her way back to being our talker. She has, however, always been our singer. It's fun to read this post, written when she was just four months old, and to recognize who she has always truly been.
Four Months Old
Date: 12/05/2007
At the doctor visit this week Megan weighed in at 12 lbs. 1 oz. Ryan has far surpassed his “big” sister, weighing 13 lbs. 5 oz. We are still waiting for the analysis from Grandpa Tim…
Both babies are catching up to their full-term counterparts. Though they were both in the 10th percentile for weight at their 2 month check-up, now they are both in the 25th percentile. Megan is in the 60th percentile for her height – the doctor says she is built like her Mama, long and lean. They passed all other tests with flying colors.
Other updates:
Megan has rolled over from her stomach to her back. Though Mama wasn’t the first one to see it, yesterday she did it 3 times in a row for me! Ryan has found his thumb, but Rick says he sucks it like he is on a fish hook. He definitely isn’t a graceful thumb-sucker yet.
We are trying to work on a daily schedule that regulates their feedings and naps. It’s challenging with two, to say the least. Our morning routine begins at 7AM, and we play pretty consistently for about 2 hours every day before the first nap. All of us have grown to love Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, though Megan will watch pretty much anything. She loves TV. She is also our talker, talking to her toys, her brother, and especially her daddy. Rick says she is a soprano, and she does love to sing along with Mama when we sing “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” Our final music class of the semester is this week, and I can see the effect it has had on both Megan and Ryan. Music and singing can calm them when they cry, and it can make them laugh when they are happy.
We traveled to PA for Thanksgiving, and Rick and I were thankful that Granna and Grampa were willing to do a tag-team dinner that day. Megan was a little fussy and wanted to be held. It was nice to have grandparents take care of her so we could eat a meal from start to finish!
The babies will be baptized this week, surrounded by their family and some special friends. Everyone at church is excited for this event. Mama is just hoping they don’t throw up on their special outfits…
